Cooperation in international projects is an important
part of the All-China Women¡¯s Federation's foreign
exchanges. Since 1979 the All-China Women¡¯s Federation
has cooperated in a variety of projects with United
Nations organizations and bodies such as UNICEF,
UNDP, UNIFEM, UNIDO, IFAD and United Nations University.
Concurrently, the All-China Women¡¯s Federation
also implemented projects in cooperation
with governmental institutions or NGOs in Canada,
Australia, Japan, Sweden, Norway, Israel, Holland,
Switzerland, the United States, and the European
Union, covering such topics as
poverty elimination, education, health,
women's interests and rights and other related
areas. To date, over 1000 projects have been completed
mainly scattered in ethnic group areas and poor
mountainous regions throughout China's
31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions.
Around one million people are directly involved
in these projects and indirect beneficiaries exceed
ten million.
Through the endeavors of the
All-China Women¡¯s Federation and Women's Federations
at all levels, some cooperative projects have won
such awards as ¡°Outstanding
Project¡±
by UNIFEM,
"Maurice Pate Award 1994" by UNICEF,
and the King Sejong Literacy Prize for 1995
by UNESCO. The hard-working, dedicated, disciplined,
and down-to-earth attitudes Chinese women
have shown in these projects win widespread acclaim
from international communities and the honor as
"ideal partners". |
