On February 22, 2006, Zhang Jing, Director-General of the International Department of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), met with Bereket Simon, public relations advisor to the Prime Minister
of Ethiopia and former minister of information. Simon led a delegation of the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front on a visit to China.
Zhang extended a warm welcome to Simon and his delegation, and provided an introduction to the ACWF and its various projects for women, as well as the general situation of Chinese women. She said ACWF is committed to protecting women's rights and interests, and to the enhancement of Chinese women's status. Lots of achievements have been made, she said, adding that more efforts are needed.
Simon thanked Zhang for receiving the delegation, and for the introduction. He also shared some of the actions undertaken by Ethiopia to promote gender equality, and the progress made by Ethiopian women in various fields.
The discussions were in-depth and very informative. Both sides expressed the wish to see continued development of the exchanges and relations between the women of the two countries.
