ĦĦĦĦOn February 24, 2003, vocational training course
for adolescent girls from western, poverty-stricken
areas began in Shandong Province. Long Jiangwen,
vice-director of the ACWF's International Liaison
Department, Robert Engelhardt, representative
of German-based Hanns-Seidel Foundation, local
leaders and German experts attended the opening
ceremony.
ĦĦĦĦThe program marks the first time the ACWF and
the Hanns Seidel Foundation have cooperated. The
program's aim is to help adolescent girls in poverty-stricken
areas develop basic skills and shake off poverty.
The six-month course, for 20 girls from Shaanxi,
Gansu and Inner Mongolia, includes basic scientific
knowledge, tailoring and sewing, livestock husbandry,
fruit processing and basic carpentry. The girls
will receive national training completion certificates
after the course.
