ĦĦĦĦOn February 27, 2003, several ACWF staff members,
led by Gu Xiulian, ACWF Vice-President and First
Member of the Secretariat, and Zhao Shaohua, Member
of the Secretariat, had luncheon at the Yemeni
Embassy with the Group of Spouses of Arab Heads
of Diplomatic Missions in Beijing.
ĦĦĦĦDuring the luncheon, Mme. Nehad R. Sukayri,
chairperson of the group and wife of Jordan's
Ambassador to China, made a speech brimming with
feeling. Since its establishment, she said, the
group has devoted itself to developing relations
of friendship and cooperation with the ACWF, and
to building a bridge of friendship between Arab
and Chinese women. She also said she hoped such
relations and exchanges could be strengthened.
In her speech, Gu Xiulian praised the group as
an envoy of friendship. The group, Gu said, has
contributed to the promotion of friendly cooperation
between women in China and Arab countries, and
to the development of Chinese women and children.
She expressed thanks for the donation by the wife
of H. M. King of Bahrain to Chinese women during
her visit to China, and for the group's donation
to the Yanqing Primary School last year. She said
the ACWF cherished very much the traditional friendship
with the women and women's organizations in Arab
countries, and that the ACWF would do more in
future to continue developing those relations.
ĦĦĦĦSpouses of diplomats from Jordan, Somalia, Yemen,
Palestine, Sudan, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Djibouti,
Bahrain, Algeria and Kuwait attended the activity.
