In memory of the 25th anniversary of the conclusion of the Sino-Japan Treaty on Peace and Friendship, at the invitation of the Japanese Commission of Practice for Welcoming Chinese Women's Delegations, a 10-member Chinese Women's Delegation, headed by Peng Peiyun, Vice-Chairperson of the NPC Standing Committee and ACWF President, visited Tokyo and Okinawa from February 21 to 27, 2003. Members of the delegation included Zhu Lilan, Deputy Director of the NPC's Education, Science, Culture and Public Health Committee; Huang Qingyi, ACWF Vice-President and Member of the Secretariat; Wang Meixiang, Vice-Governor of Fujian Province; and Yang Xianglan, director of the Jilin Women's Federation.

　　The Japanese side attached much importance to the delegation. During the visit, presidents of the Senate and the House met the delegation. More than 400 people from the Japanese side participated in the gathering and banquet. They included Murayama Tomiichi，former Prime Minister; Miki Mutsuko, wife of Miki Takeo, former Prime Minister; Doi Takako，Head of the United Social Democratic Party; Hamayotsu Toshiko, Vice-Representative of the Komeito; and women representatives from non-party and other parties' Dietmen; persons-in-charge from women's organizations and representatives of women college students.

　　During their visit in Okinawa, the delegation paid an official call on Inamine Keichi，Governor of Okinawa, and attended a meeting co-sponsored by 32 local women's organizations. They exchanged opinions on peace and women's issues with about 100 local women.

　　Yomiuri Shinbun, Nippon To Chugoku, Kome Shinbun, Sekyo Shinbun, Ryukyu Shinpo and Okinawa TV covered the visit.

　　The delegation is the first from China this year to visit Japan to commemorate the treaty's anniversary. The visit helped increase understanding and friendship between the people and women, and promoted the development of both state-level and folk relations of friendship between the countries.
