ILO-TICW
Project
Planning Conference for the New Cycle
|
From
September 16 to 18, 2002, the International Labor
Organization-Mekong Subregional Project on Trafficking
in Children & Women held a planning conference
for the new cycle of the project in Hanoi, Vietnam.
The first cycle of the project has been implemented
for two years in Yunnan Province (China), Thailand,
Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam, and it is based on its
success experiences that this new cycle of activities
are planned. Participants included project coordinators
from the above-mentioned countries and project staff
of the concerned organizations. They identified
8 key areas in the new cycle: information, media
and communication, institutional building, capacity
building/development of tools, direct assistance,
labor migration, employee and employer, gender mainstreaming.
Also, they made a discussion of the results that
had been achieved in the above areas and the contents
that should be strengthened and added in the new
cycle.
The project guidelines of the new cycle, based on
the opinions from the participants of the conference,
will be written by special experts recruited by
the Project Office of the ILO-TICM Project, and
will continue to solicit opinions from the concerned
countries.
The project activities implemented by China's Yunnan
Province have won high appraisal from all parties.
In particular, the Women's Federation, in close
collaboration with the government agencies at all
levels, has provided effective help for the target
groups in the grassroots community in awareness
enhancement, agricultural income increase, raising
enrolment rate of children, etc, which effectively
reduces the possibilities of blind labor migration
and trafficking. It is planned that a conference
aimed at extending experiences of this project will
be held in Beijing at the end of October this year.
