Psycho
Counseling Workshop in Beijing

From
July 16 to 19, 2002, the International Liaison Department
and the Legal Department of the All-China Women's
Federation (ACWF) jointly held a Workshop on Psycho
Counseling. This training workshop is one of the
project activities for "Combating the Trafficking
in Women and Children", a project co-sponsored
by ACWF and UNICEF. It is aimed at increasing the
capacity of the cadres of women's federations at
different levels to use psychological knowledge
in psycho counseling and mental healing for women
and children who have been trafficked or suffered
from other forms of violence. A total of 50 women
cadres from 25 provincial women's federations, 4
cities directly supervised by the state, as well
as the International Liaison Department and the
Legal Department of ACWF participated in the event.
The participants unanimously expressed that this
training on professional knowledge and skills is
"very good", "timely", and "urgently
needed" in their work. This training has broadened
their scope of thinking, making them realize that
people who appeal for assistance need not only the
legal help, but also the mental persuasion. They
also expressed the wish that they will incorporate
their newly learnt psychological knowledge into
their daily work so as to protect women's and children's
legal rights and interests in a better way.
