The UN General Assembly Special Session on
Children was held in New York, headquarters of
the UN, between May 8 and 10, 2002. Four from
ACWF attended the special session as nonvoting
delegates and successfully held a Parents Education
and Child Development Forum, sharing experience
on early childhood education in China. The participants
to the Forum were very interested in the parents'
school network in China, claiming that it is an
effective way to improve childhood education.
The participants emphasized that in developing
the potentials of small children, it is important
that the parents should take care to see if the
children are happy or interested, rather than
imposing their will upon the children. These opinions
are in line with the requirement of quality education
in China.
Before the special session, delegates from ACWF
accompanied two Chinese children to attend the
Children's Forum from May 5 to 7.
