Mme. Liu Hairong, Director
of the Office of the National Working Committee
on Women and Children under the State Council,
Vice President and member of the Secretariat
of the All-China Women's Federation led
the Chinese Delegation to the Annual Session
2001 of the Executive Board of the United
Nations Children's Fund from June 4 to 8
in New York. The Chinese Delegation made
presentations under the agenda items related
to the report of the Executive director
on progress towards achieving the organizational
priorities of the UNICEF medium-term plan,
the report on UNICEF experience with sector-wide
approaches and sector development programs
and the report of the UN secretary-general
on the review of the achievements in the
implementation and results of the World
Declaration on the Survival, Protection
and Development of Children and Plan of
Action for implementing the Declaration.
In the presentations, the Chinese Delegation
expressed its appreciation of UNICEF's work
during the last year, its special effort
on fund-raising and its initiative of sector-wide
approaches to assist countries to formulate
policies and make plans. As for the decrease
of core resources, the Chinese Delegation
appealed to developed countries to share
more responsibilities.
