A representative of ACWF participated
the NGO Forum of the 5th East Asia &
Pacific Ministerial Consultation (MinCon)
on Sharing the Future for Children in Thailand
from April 24 to 26, 2001.
The
forum was the preparation for the Beijing
MinCon in May which will further carry out
the UN Special Assembly on Children in September.
Together with another 27 participants from
children's organizations in Indonesia, Malaysia,
Mongolia, Myanmar, the Philippines and Thailand
and some international organizations, ACWF
representative reviewed children's development
in the last 10 years since the 1990 Children's
Summit, made recommendations on the program
for the next ten years to the MinCon, and
discussed the roles that NGOs were playing
to implement the Convention on the Right
of Child and support the fulfillment of
children's right.
Participants
at the Forum defined 4 priorities for the
region: children and health, children and
education, protection of children's rights
and children's participation. On this basis,
recommendations were made to the NGOs on
redressing these issues in the next decade.
6
representatives including ACWF's were elected
to attend the Beijing MinCon on behalf of
the Forum.
