¡¡¡¡Annual Work Plan
meeting of the "Canadian China
Women's Law Project (CCWLP)"
was held from February 18 to 23. Canadian
project manager Ms. Diane Tyler and
other four Canadian experts worked
with experts and management staff
from the Chinese side to review project
activities and draft the work plan
for the fiscal year from 2001 to 2002.
From February 24 to March 1, the group
went down to the two project sites
in Hebei Province and Inner Mongolia
Autonomous Region successively, and
made evaluations of project implementation
and effectiveness.
¡¡¡¡CCWLP
is funded by Canadian International
Development Agency, implemented jointly
by All-China Women's Federation and
Canadian Association of Community
Colleges. With a project cycle of
five years, it started in the year
of 1998. The project is aimed at promoting
women's rights through improved awareness
and application of the 1992 Law on
the Protection of Women's Rights and
Interests of the People's Republic
of China and other laws and regulations
that support women's rights and privileges
so that women are better able to access
their rights in accordance with letter
and intention of the aforementioned
laws.
¡¡¡¡Chen Yongling, Deputy Director-General
of the International Liaison Department,
attended the 2nd substantive Session
of the Preparatory Committee of the
Special Session of the General Assembly
on Children and the parallel NGO Forum
from January 27 and February 2, on
which the progress made after the
World Summit on Children and the Outcome
Document submitted by the UN Secretary
General to the Special Session of
the General Assembly on Children were
reviewed and other related issues
were consulted.
¡¡¡¡World
Summit on Children was convened in
the United Nations on September 1990.
Heads of 71 governments and 88 ministers
participated in this historical event.
The Declaration on the Survival, Protection
and Development of Children and the
Action Plan for the 1990's were adopted
at the conference. According to the
resolution NO. 55/26 of the UN General
Assembly, Special Assembly on Children
will be held during September 19 to
21, 2001, to assess the realization
of all the objectives constituted
in the World Summit on Children, make
further commitment and endorse the
action plan for the next ten years.
