Co-operative
Projects on Rural Women and Child Healthcare
Though remarkable progress has been made on women
and child healthcare and reproductive health services, in
rural areas, especially in the western countryside, women
still have limited access to healthcare services. Among every
100 pregnant women under 35 years old, 24 have never had any
prenatal check-up, a figure 18.8 percent higher than urban women
in the same age group. Furthermore, in western regions, among
every 100 pregnant women under 35 years old, 36 have never
had any prenatal check-up, 21 percent higher than women in
the same age group in eastern areas. About half of rural women
have never had gynaecological examinations.
To improve rural women and children's healthcare services,
especially of those in western regions, concerned governmental
departments have actively raised funds to support the development
of rural women
