secondary and university students. Professional
teams for preventing AIDS organized by departments of public
health and prevention of diseases have carried out AIDS monitoring
work. The team has made a survey of the distribution of AIDS
and the status of its spread in China and attempted to stipulate
prevention measures and regulations. Related training, publicity,
scientific research and international co-operation has been
carried out.
In 2003, the Chinese Government greatly reduced the
price of the drugs used against AIDS. The Government promised
to offer free drugs to poverty-stricken AIDS patients. Financial
aid was given to those whose children go to school free of
tuition. The Government also promised to further improve laws
and regulations on AIDS, strengthen prevention measures against
dangerous behaviour, protect the lawful rights and interests
of AIDS patients and act against social discrimination. The
media were also encouraged to enhance public knowledge on
AIDS.

Safety" and Reproductive Health Service
Starting from the third month of pregnancy to the
42nd day after delivery, women are supplied with healthcare
services given by local women and child healthcare centres.
Services include mother and fetus health tutoring, prenatal
check-ups, fetus healthcare, caring for at-risk pregnant women,
lying-in delivery, home visits after birth and healthcare
